Producer registration & EPR

Each member state runs a national producer register. A producer must be registered there before making packaging or packaged products available on that market for the first time, and must report the quantities and types placed on the market annually — by 1 June, using the data set in Annex IX. Producers not established in the EU must appoint an authorised representative for extended producer responsibility in each relevant member state. Producers fund the EPR scheme's costs, including waste-receptacle labelling and compositional surveys, and fees are modulated by recyclability performance. Producers selling through online platforms must give their registration details to the platform and to fulfilment providers. Producers under 10 tonnes a year may use simplified reporting; registration decisions take up to 12 weeks.

What you must do

• Register, or appoint an authorised representative, in every market before you first sell there.
• Set up volume reporting by material and packaging type for the 1 June deadline.
• Model the fee impact of your recyclability grades and pass registration data to your marketplaces.
